MAY ALL OUR DREAMS COME TRUE

A solo exhibit by Malou Solano

Travelling through the dreamscapes of Marilou Solano’s art, we find ourselves wondering what our dreams are truly made of. What vibrant colors are the skies overhead? What manner of flora populates its lands? Who are the strange characters that roam about our peripheries? In exploring the curious and unfamiliar, we discover threads of recollection. As if in delving deeper into the unknown, we begin to encounter fragments of our own realities and begin to see them in a fantastical new light.

In May All Your Dreams Come True, Marilou Solano presents a tender wish. A wish to escape into the purity of imagination we meet through our dreams, and also a wish that we may carry the wonder we feel in such an escape long after we’ve woken. With a vibrant color palette and an animated crew of creatures, Solano paints a world both seemingly vast and expansive and one small and intimate. For instead of depicting grand scenery, she focuses on her starry-eyed wanderers. They look upon sights we cannot see with smiles of quiet awe, mirroring perhaps whatever we feel as we recall the curiosities of our own dreams.

With Solano’s wish come sincere affirmations. With titles like All is Well, To You I Exist, and I Will Be Your Hope When You’re Hopeless, she presents these fantasies not as realms only reachable from afar, but as places of comfort and solace that are there for us even while awake. The phrase “May all your dreams come true” may be a hope for a better future, where dreams become grounded in reality. Yet gazing into the eyes of Solano’s childlike faces, we feel comforted knowing that whatever world we dwell in, whether waking reality or the lofty recesses of dreams, they are there for us and remain our inner truths.
